10 Report March 4, 2004 Meeting
I recently attended the Westchester/Putnam Legislative breakfast
on Feb 27, 2004 in White Plains. It was well attended by school
board members, superintendents, as well as our legislators.
Those in attendance expressed the importance of a budget on time,
still addressing the funding.
As we all know, with the reports waiting to come out addressing
funding, they still will not be out in respect to dealing with
this year's budget.
There was talk on whether or not it is proper to use gambling
money from casino revenue. We use lotto money for education. I
think that's gambling also?
Area 10 is in the midst of preparing itself for local school district
budget presentations, as well as going up to Albany for the SLN
conference on March 14th thru the 16th (with lobbying taking place
on Tuesday the 16th).
I will make mention again about seeking out a local Wick's Law
exemption for districts that might have some upcoming construction
-- talk to your legislative people.
Good luck as we all band together from Westchester, Putnam, and
Rockland counties to voice our concerns with our legislative people
in Albany on the important issues that affect public education
so that all children can get a fair education. I shall see those
attending in Albany.
